Siderúrgica Lázaro Cárdenas Las Truchas is known as Sicartsa. The company has the biggest consolidated iron and steel manufacturer of long products in Latin America. The plant is located in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán and was acquired by Villacero in 1991.

Sicartsa’s productive process begins with the extraction of iron mineral. It is important to point out that the company is self-sufficient on this item. The mines are located at a distance of 26 Kilometers from the plant and they have enough reserves to last for the next 45 years.

Sicartsa’s integrated process allows the company to annually produce 1.7 Million tons of finished product. The production capacity of liquid steel is of 2.4 Million tons, annually.

The iron and steel complex at Lazaro Cardenas includes: Mines, Iron ore concentrating plant, Pelletizing plant, Coke ovens, Blast furnace, Oxy-cupola furnace, Basic Oxygen Furnaces (BOF), Continuous casters, Rebar rolling mill, Wire rod rolling mill, Port facilities, Other industrial service facilities such as a power plant, a steam plant, lime plant and oxygen plant.

Sicartsa is strategically located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The port facilities granted by the government have a capacity for the simultaneous entrance of 3 ships and the exit of two ships. The access through the ocean allows Sicartsa to have a privileged position in order to satisfy the needs of the NAFTA, South American markets, as well as those of the Pacific. Sicartsa is Mexico’s biggest exporter of rebar and wire rod.
